Marriage Encounter started in Spain in 1953 with Father Calvo and one couple.

• The first Weekend was held in Spain in 1962.
• In 1967 the Roman Catholic Christian Family Movement brought it to the eastern U.S.
• The first Episcopal Weekend was held in North Carolina in 1971.
• Episcopal Marriage Encounter came to New Mexico in November of 1985.
• We are part of the Worldwide Marriage Encounter community.

The largest and most active Episcopal Marriage Encounter community in the United States is located right here in Albuquerque, NM.

There are many Expressions of Marriage Encounter.  Worldwide there have been over two million Encountered couples.

Marriage Encounter is the most successful, widely recognized, and dynamic marriage enrichment experience in the world today.

Marriage Encounter is a stable, long-time movement welcomed by the church, but not financially supported by the church.  (Nor does any money donated go to the church.)
